Donner's Missing Secret is a short story I wrote years ago that I've always been a little fond of. A polite, safe Bizarro tale that means and says absolutely nothing. A short bit of fun.
Now, it's the far flung future of 2024 and AI's are taking over. That has nothing to do with the story, that's just what's going on right now. Countless people are copy/pasting prompts into websites and heading straight to the publisher afterwards. It seems like everyone's either angry or depressed about it, but I don't feel quite so creatively threatened for our future... yet. Yes, it can be abused, misused, and there's going to be damage along the way, but I'm not (...yet) worried that computers will replace the artist. AI, in theory (uh... I think) is to be a tool, not a replacement.
So, here's an experiment. Instead of a quick, easy prompt, I used the completed short story I wrote back when I called myself a writer and used it as a 'prompt' for squibler.io to turn into a ten chapter book. The things this AI kicked out... I find fascinating, wild, and kinda love. If I had written it myself, would I be as proud of it as the original short? No. But you don't have to be proud of something to still kinda like it. And "kinda" is always better than bad.
